Now that the time for DLV is approaching, I started thinking that
I really don't like elevators. I have a reservation at the
Sahara and was wondering if there are any decent motels close
to the strip. I imagine that as being a quick, peaceful trip
to and from the car. I think I recall this subject being
discussed before, but I don't know when.

Thanks for your input.

If you don't like elevators, crowds, hotel lobbies and
such, there are four of our suggested hotels which
might be for you.

Imperial Palace and Palace Station both have "garden"
rooms in addition to tower rooms. These are often
times cheaper than tower rooms.

Alexis Park and St. Tropez are smaller low-rise places
with no casino and smaller crowds.

St. Tropez has offered special rates to DLV people,
BUT THEY EXPIRE TOMORROW! You need to act now.

Information on suggested DLV 2008 hotels appears here:

If you don't like elevators, stay the h*ll away from the Strat,
especially if you're checking out on Sunday.

So far as I know in the history of DLV, only one registered
attendee has been stranded in a crowded elevator between floors
at the Sahara Hotel so you should be pretty safe. Of course if
you were stranded between floors and you just had to go that
could be a problem! :)

That was me, and it wasn't really crowded. I think there were
six of us in there total, and I was the only DLVer. It was very
late Friday night. There was some kind of a glitch which caused
all of the elevators in the bank to stall, but the one I was on
did not restart and was stuck between floors 1 and 2.

We were stuck for about an hour, since the hotel maintenance
people were unable to get it going, so they had to phone the
elevator service's emergency number and get a crew out to get
us out. The lights were still on, and nobody got histerical or
anything. One lady was obviously uncomfortable and suffering
from claustrophobia, but remained more or less calm. One guy
just laid down on the floor and slept. The rest of us made
small-talk.

There were a few somewhat amusing things. Every so often the
security desk would call up on the squawk box asking if we were
ok and updating us on what was happening. She would always ask
"Are you still there?" as if we were able to go elsewhere! :)

I had a big sign "Ask me about Showgirls Of Magic tickets"
clipped to my shirt, and yes, some of the others asked me
about Showgirls Of Magic and I told them all about it. I
said I was with a group out here and I was the one selling
the tickets to the group. :) No, I didn't sell any that
night. :) LOL, I actually could have given them a discount! :)

One couple was from Chicago, and of course I said I had
relatives there and went there semi-frequently for both
business and pleasure. They seemed impressed when I pulled
a CTA Transit Card out of my purse. :)

All of a sudden there was a clunk and the elevator moved
very slowly to the second floor. Maintenance and security
were there, with an EMT for the lady who wasn't feeling
well. The security guy took our room numbers and said he
would turn them in to the desk and they would comp us the
night for the hassle. (All except the one poor schlub who
wasn't staying there.) :) He said that if we wanted to, we
could stop by security and file an incident report, but it
was not really necessary.

No, nobody appeared to have to take a bio break very badly
during the hour or so. :)

If elevators are troublesome Try Terribles on Flamingo Road, It is a
short drive to the strip and very near a lot of our activities, They
have a Motel style or New addition low rise Hotel style. The Motel is
only 2 stories and access can be from many card entry access side
entrances, Parking is right outside your door or at the rear of the
hotel. If you are new it might be good to ask for a room near an exit
door. They are very accomodating as all Vegas hotels are. This might be
less stressfull for you. Before you book a room at Terribles, Try
"Vegas.com" and view the prices for Terribles there first, You can
sometimes save a lot. Hope this helps
