Org List:

This is the DLV 2015 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Hotels and housekeeping:

Please see the hotel strategy and discussion below. We need to get the
hotel suggestions finalized so we can announce them in a general mailing
the first week of December.

Please watch your inboxes over the next week or so!

In the event we need to call for a vote on anything regarding hotels, it
may occur at short notice. Those of voting status should please keep an
eye on the inboxes over the next list cycle.
. . . . . . . . . .

Unless pressing matters emerge, we plan on having one more ORG mailing
before we temporarily adjourn for the holidays.

In the event that time-sensitive items emerge, we may have to come out
of adjournment to deal with them, so please watch the inboxes over the
holiday break.

Happy Thanksgiving from the PM team to you and yours! :)

Hotel comments:

Vanessa writes:

Downtown could be fun and very social..... I would say include a
downtown hotel that is well maintained and friendly and try it....

Amazed at the rates on the strip this year and I have always stayed at
Paris or MGM and got decent rates....each are over $100 for week nights
plus the resort fees.
. . . . .

JoAnn writes:

Suggest a hybrid of hotels: (1) one on the Strip that is price and
companionship driven, (2) a downtown hotel, and (3) a slightly upscale.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

The only way we are going to find out if a downtown hotel works or not
is to try it.

We do need to be sure that we let the people staying downtown know that
they are actually part of an "experiment" as to how a downtown suggested
hotel works in our context.

Here's what we are proposing, as JoAnn writes:

(1) On the Strip > Flamingo
(2) Downtown > Four Queens
(3) Up-scale > Paris

There are "no perfect Christmas Trees, nor Hotel selections in Vegas".
But we do the best we can when making a selection [as opposed to a
recommendation] and here is where I see the "mop flops". And you can
quote me on that... JoAnn
. . . . . .

There is one other consideration. We are still holding for a possible
rate quote from Bea's friend at Casino Royale.

Bea, in order to be considered, that needs to be in our hands by Monday,
December 1, at the very latest. We are due to announce our suggested
hotels "in November" and November is coming to a close.

Should Bea's friend offer us rates at Casino Royale that beat the rates
at Flamingo by 5% or greater, we will entertain a motion to swap the
Flamingo with Casino Royale.

Otherwise, we hope that we can agree upon the three hotels above by
consensus.

If anyone disagrees, to the extent that you think that another property
should be suggested instead of any of the three above, please write in
and very explicitly state why you think that your recommendation better
meets the needs of our attendees which we have identified (thrift,
companionship, etc.) than the property on the slate above.

Coordinator avatars, phones, activity info:

A few housekeeping items before we get into the holiday break here.

First, volunteer phone numbers.

Here are names of the volunteers for whom we have phone numbers on file,
including the last four digits of the number.

If you do not appear on this list, please consider listing your phone
number as a contact person for the activities you coordinate. Just reply
to this mailing giving your phone number.

Also, if you are on this list and have changed your number or find it to
be inaccurate, please let us know as well.

via the schedule options to give a good "who to look for" view to those
who will be attending and participating.

We currently have avatar photos on file for the following volunteers. If
you know you will be volunteering for some activity for 2015 and do not
have an avatar on file, please consider submitting one. It should be a
clear recent recognizable face shot. with no obvious "photoshopping."

Activity information:

As we've stated before, this year we will be including links to those
Activity Highlight items on the final schedule. We also have the ability
to include other links, such as those to an on-line menu and such.
Please be thinking ahead about any of these you want to include this
coming year.
. . . . . . . . . .

Maps:

Valerie (with the "e") has agreed to produce this map this year for DLV,
as she has been doing for the past two years for Pinkfest. It will be
similar to the maps we've had the past few years, and the map tags will
be listed for the various venues on the schedule. As we add additional
activities, we need to be sure that we have accurate address information
for the map.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Various items:

Cami writes:

I apologize I haven't been communicating much with you and the group. I
have always worked for myself and can kind of set my own schedule but I
recently took a consulting job as an executive director of a non profit
which is keeping me very busy. It can become full time and that is why
I've been hesitant to get too involved with the DLV this coming year as
I am NOT even sure I can attend. I will know more at the turn of the
year.

Having said that, I sent you an email last year while at DLV about an
idea to go to some museum that I had passed on the road. Is there any
chance you can find that email? I certainly hope I can attend.

I mentioned to stacy who was in Vegas over Halloween to look for some
restaurants to hold a farewell dinner. I don't think she had a chance.

Unfortunately I don't have any plans to go to Vegas to scout out any
other possible locations. I still like the idea of a pierced ear seminar
and ability to get your ears pierced. I will check with Wendy and see if
she can be of any help. She was the wig lady last year and might be
interested in coming again possibly even to do a wig display again . I
would love to try and help out somehow even if I don't make it.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First I do hope that you can work out things and attend this coming
year! :)

Second, I checked the mail archives (we keep everything here) and I did
not see anything from you during March or April having to do with a
museum. Can you please either resend or give enough info so I can look
it up?
. . . . . . . . . .

Cami responds:

It might have been the pinball Museum. I am looking into other museums
as well as a nighttime show. There is a rock and roll revival show at
the Tropicana. Looks kind of interesting.

FYI, I did book a Hotel and air. Still not confirmed that I will be
going but thought I would do that. The hotel rates at the stratosphere
are really a great deal right now. I got a full week without resort fee
for 331 dollars for 6 nights.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks for the update, Cami. Since you're booked, it looks promising
that you will be with us. :)

Pinball Museum has been suggested several times, but it's never happened
so far. No particular reason, just never happened.

For any of the above options, all it takes is for you (or anyone) to
make the arrangements and get them on the schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
High Tea, Horses:

Vanessa writes:

Let's not forget the afternoon tea at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday
afternoon.....fun event. Not sure who chaired that last, but would be
happy to help or chair.

I would like to see a horse back ride in Red Rock canyon or other scenic
venue.... anyone local that look into that. I will have a vehicle and
can help transport.
. . . . . . . . . .

Marilyn and Danielle did the High Tea in recent years, but it looks like
neither of them will be present this coming year so the activity is up
for grabs. You have it if you want it.

I'm sure we can get contact information for you.

Please confirm if you want to take over this one.

As for horseback riding, you probably do not need to be local to check
into it. Web searches and phone calls will most likely get all of the
info you need.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
EHM and KOH report:

As of this writing the team which is reviewing and planning the Erotic
Heritage Museum and the Kings Of Hustler activities have made no final
decisions on these two activities.

The team is leaning toward a daytime "Dr. Victoria" session on
Wednesday, which will include a museum tour, and may or may not include
lunch, which may or may not be the official "Lunch With" session for
Wednesday.

No decisions have been made regarding the Kings Of Hustler, but two
options are being considered:

1. A private DLV-only affair on Wednesday evening.

2. A similar shared-with-public affair on Thursday evening.

Features and entertainment would be similar on both evenings.

No agreement has been reached yet, but the group appears to be leaning
toward the latter option.

Comments and feedback are welcome.

Possible new facility:

Nora writes:

The reason I am writing is that there is a new facility in town that
may be perfect for Diva Activities. In fact, we have had some
relationships with it in the past. Recently the Ron Decar event center
has opened off Charleston on Las Vegas Boulevard. It is connected to the
Viva Las Vegas wedding Chapel (same owners). This facility was used a
few years ago for several wedding vow renewals.

Ron Decar has taken over what was an abandoned property and converted it
to a beautiful showroom. It is used to bring a variety of shows, usually
three to five a week.

Wedding Receptions, Corporate Events, Theatre, Cabaret, Dance
Performances http://www.rondecarseventcenter.com/

Food is also served, (Buffet/appetizers) but not required for entrance.
There is an admission fee but that can be negotiated with Ron Decar.
Food and admission prices are very reasonable.

I have been to there several times and feel it may be worth scheduling
an event if details can be worked out. They are generally booked for
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Leaving the weekdays for any possible
major DLV private event. There is also the possibility of our attending
a scheduled event. The property would be ideal for a group dinner and
show and even the scheduling of a formal event.

The Property is gay owned and friendly to our community.

Last night I attended a one time performance from Jimmy Emerson and
Tommi Rose. Both well known Drag performers who have performed with
Frank Marino and Kenny Kerr.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Nora.

All, if you are in need of a facility such as this, we have a first
hand recommendation and it is assured to be friendly to our group.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Afternoon Social:

Marisa writes;

Katie, you have the location of Chayo correct.

A different bar in the Quad that is just in the door by the taxi and
limo stand is the very recently opened 3535 bar.

They don't serve food, but have $5 beer and $7 wells all day.

Chayo is on the other side of the casino across the esplanade from the
Flamingo entrance.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Marisa.

Ladies, please be thinking of the pros and cons of the various bars
for the Afternoon Social. We won't change it right now, and there is no
hurry, so we have time to consider options.

Not funny:

Beverly writes:

It looks like I might have to drop my idea of the Improv at Harrah's
following dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House. The comedy show on Tuesday
evenings in March start at 8:30. Since dinner starts at 7:00 we would
only have an hour before having to head to the show, and dinner at RC's
needs at least 90 minutes to enjoy the wonderful experience. it's not
something I want to rush.

So for now I will drop the comedy show and see if there is something
else I can add to cap off the evening. At the very least we can leave
dinner and head over to Paris for the dancing.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Beverly.

Regretfully Improv has been scratched. Please let us know if/when a
replacement has been selected.
