Org List:

This is the DLV 2015 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Holiday break:

Our plans are to suspend this list over the holidays.

However, there are two possible items that may need our attention,
possibly at short notice, so please keep your eyes on your inboxes
during the next week.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks to those who sent in updates, Coordinator avatar photos, etc.

We hope that those of you who have not submitted a Coordinator photo
will be willing to send in a clear face shot to be used on the final
versions of our schedule.

If you want to see how this works, surf here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/customsched.cgi

Just click on the "I don't care about options ..." button to get the
default version of the schedule, which includes the photos.
. . . . . . . . . .

We have two possible pending motions. One of them may involve hotels,
and the other involves the final major gathering. In the event we have
any hotel motions, we will deal with them prior to taking on any other
items due to the time sensitivity.

Please keep an eye on your inboxes.

Finalizing hotels:

No objections have been received regarding our proposed slate of
suggested hotels, those being Flamingo, Four Queens, and Paris.

However, we're holding off on an official announcement pending any
motions to amend the above. See below.

In addition, we may indeed have some special rates available at the
Flamingo, as noted immediately below. Big thanks to Beverly for taking
the initiative on this.

This is not a "Done Deal" yet, there are still some formalities to be
worked out, but it looks very promising, particularly when that final
Friday night is factored in.
. . . . .

Beverly writes:

I have been in contact with Flamingo about group rates for DLV. They
have quoted me a rate of $65 per night or single or double for Sunday
thru Friday, 6 nights.

That's a good rate!

Katie writes:

Hotel suggestion.

I am assuming that we will be using the three suggested hotel system
again for the county hotels. 1 mid to high end. 1 mid range and 1 off
strip but reasonably close by.

If we were to suggest Downtown Las Vegas accommodations in addition to
this for those who would like the experience then I think it would be
pertinent to at least give people who do not know much about LV more
than one single option like we do with the County/Strip hotels.

The Golden Nugget is in the mid range and the Four Queens will give
those who might want to stay somewhere a bit more low key in the Fremont
street area an opportunity to do that too. They are both only steps
apart so getting together with the downtown gang would be an easy fit.

I think along with this recommendation a caution should be added to it.
such as .."It is a great place to stay but most of our activities are a
good distance away from F/St and cab rides to and from might become a
counter balance to the cost of a stay downtown. but if this is not a
concern to you then please feel free to use our recommended Downtown
hotels. Another thing of note is.. The cost of food is considerably less
on Fremont street than it is up on the strip.. IE:-- Prime rib $7:95 etc
and very reasonable buffets IE:-- Fremont Hotel brecky buff $5 or
somewhere in that zone. A coffee and a Muffin at The Flamingo Starbucks
will run you around $10 The tough part is.. You will be a long way from

Annie responds:

We really need to wrap up the hotel situation.

The topic has been open for about six weeks and we are almost to the
point of being late with our announcement.

We do, however, want to give everyone a chance to give their input.

If anyone here sincerely believes that hotels other than Flamingo, Four
Queens, and Paris better meet the needs of our attendees (the specific
needs discussed in our recent mailings), please feel free to raise a
motion to substitute any particular hotel

We will hold the floor open for another 24 hours for any motions to
substitute alternate hotels for Flamingo, Four Queens, and Paris. Should
a motion be raised, we'll put things on a very fast track with a very
fast (for us) 24 hour turn-around. This is last call.

We will not be entertaining any motions to increase the number of
suggested hotels nor to change the hotel strategy of one affordable
Strip hotel, one downtown hotel, and one upscale hotel.

Thoughts on Monday Evening Kickoff:

Beverly writes:

Here's a thought I have about getting the week rocking during the Monday
night gathering at Bahama Breeze. What's your thoughts?

Feelin' Beautiful!

We are going to kick off DLV week with Monday night at Bahama Breeze
being declared as "Feelin' Beautiful!" We invite you to put on your
outfit that makes you feel beautiful and strut your stuff at BB with
your friends. It is your choice what you wear as long as it makes you
feel good (and is proper for being out in public during the evening
hours ie: no fetish wear).

This is the night to put on that LBD or long gown, maybe that cocktail
dress you've been dying to wear or the number that got you named "Best
Dressed" on the Academy Awards red carpet, whatever makes you feel
beautiful. Its all about YOU! Dress to the nines, look elegant, rock
the world, make the other diners green with envy show your stuff! Say
yes to the dress!!
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Beverly.

The one idea I immediately thought of has to do with a twist of our
"official" photo, which has been traditionally done during this type of
activity.

I noticed that the photos of those present on last event's Audrey Tour,
those dressed in black, were particularly photogenic.

I'm thinking that in addition to the regular photos with everyone in
them, we do a second series of shots of those dressed in black. I think
that would come off very well.

KKK location:

Marisa writes:

Sorry Katie, but Betty's Cafe and the other shops in the corridor going
to the parking garage and monorail in the Linq is being reconstructed
into something unknown other than a tattoo lounge. There is a Starbucks
at the Linq promenade and the Hash House is up the escalator close to
where Betty's had been.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the heads-up Marisa.

Unfortunately the only constant in Las Vegas is change.

Katie and Beverly, please be thinking of where you want to hold this,
either at the Linq Starbucks or elsewhere. There is no hurry, but please
be thinking about this.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Improv, Big Wheel, etc.:

Katie writes:

> It looks like I might have to drop my idea of the Improv at
> Harrah's following dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House.

This might be a good spot to insert the Big Wheel excursion. (Leave
windows open for those who over ate at Ruths Cris) ...Ha!
. . . . .

Vera writes:

Can't the Improv be kept for those who do not attend the steak dinner on
Tuesday night... just saying.
. . . . .

Beverly responds:

Yes Vera, anyone could go ahead and organize/host the Improv comedy club
Tuesday night or any other night as well. Since I won't be doing it on
Tuesday I might consider it another night, or I might forget about it
for this year. i am not going to arrange for the Improv and not attend
it though.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sunday activities:

Marisa writes:

It looks like an attempt is being made to revive the Sunday FSE. So lets
scratch the pub crawl at the Venetian and add Brass Lounge as a HH dine
option to begin with the others, that Robyn and I will host. They also
have karaoke at 9. Is Linda hosting karaoke some where?
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Marisa. We'll get the three Brass Lounge items on the schedule
for Sunday with you and Robyn (with the "y") in charge.

Linda has not, as of this time, selected a time for her karaoke.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Fragrance seminar:

Robin (with the "i") writes:

Since I was the one who originally brought up the fragrance seminar, I
would like to follow up on it.

I will be in Las Vegas next week for a few days. I do not want to step
on anyone's toes, so if it is all right I will stop at Macy's and
enquire about putting something together. I would like to work with
whoever puts the Macy's make overs together, so if I could get a contact
and touch base with her, that would be great.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Robin.

Sara (no "h") is the one coordinating the Macy's Makeovers. We can do
an exchange of e-mail addresses if you don't have each other's. Please
let us know.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Final dinner motion:

Bob writes:

We could always hold the farewell dinner at BB, but a vote would
probably have to be taken and it would probably go the same as last
year, against another restaurant, unless you want to be fair this time
and vote on the motion as stated.

I make a motion that we hold the farewell dinner at BB.
. . . . . . . . . .

Beverly responds:

I do not want to host two events at BB.

I will host the opening as scheduled or move the closer to Friday at BB
if that is what the group wants.

I think holding both events there would be a big mistake. Plus there is
still plenty of time to find another venue.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

One of the major items on our plate is the location of the final evening
get-together.

As Beverly noted, we could move the Bahama Breeze to Friday, but this
would simply be "moving the hole" from one evening to another.

If anyone would like to see this (move BB to Friday) happen, please
write in and say so. This would be very do-able, assuming that BB has
room for us on Friday.

As noted above, Beverly, as our primary Bahama Breeze contact, is
declining to host(ess) an additional BB activity on Friday. This leaves
us currently without a volunteer Coordinator for such a proposed Friday
affair.

We will be following our established procedures very closely when
dealing with the above motion, should it advance to the floor.

In order to act upon this motion, we will first need a volunteer to
agree to act as primary Coordinator of such an affair (a second major
Bahama Breeze gathering to occur on Friday).

A notice to this effect appeared within the ORG mailing on November 11
regarding the closing gathering:

+We will not be entertaining any formal binding motions locking us into
+a "where" unless the "who" portion is also covered or agreed upon. :)

The basis of this is the following Standing Rule:

+(1) All DLV activities which appear on the final schedule must
+have a Diva Las Vegas attendee-volunteer listed as the primary
+responsible Coordinator.

Therefore, if we have a volunteer to take the lead (on a proposed second
Bahama Breeze gathering on Friday) during what would normally be the
next list cycle (1-2 weeks) we'll accept this motion, call for a second,
and discussion and vote.

Volunteers?

Everyone, please watch your inboxes on this.

Pamplemousse timing:

Delaney writes:

I was looking for your thoughts on something. Dinner at Pample tends to
run long, they put on a bit of a show for us, so it runs very tight to
make a follow-on activity. I was thinking of moving the dinner up, with
either a shortened, or no, Happy Hour. Last year, it was difficult to
make the Marino show, which I think was a 9PM start. Your thoughts ?

Also, absent a bargain coming along on the strip, I will be part of the
downtown experiment. I shop rates until fairly close to the event, but
right now it looks like Fremont.

I will be sending along a picture for the schedule fairly soon - I just
have to do it.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

We don't currently have any after-dinner plans on Tuesday, but we
certainly will have them eventually.

It's really your call as to when we schedule what. It's nice to have
regular start times, and the attendees do grow conditioned to them, but
exceptions will undoubtedly occur.

LOL, my major personal concern is how things will look on the various
versions of the schedule. :) My personal experience with DLV over the
years is that if we schedule something too early in the evening we run
the risk of having people late or absent due to not being able to get
ready and get there on time -- even when considering a happy hour as a
catch-up timeslot.
